Day Services

Abode Doorway to Life provides day services for adults aged 18 and over with physical and/or sensory disabilities.

We offer:

  • Centre-based supports: Monday to Friday at our accessible facility 
  • Outreach supports: for individuals who prefer to be supported in their community 
  • Blended supports: a mix of centre and community-based activities tailored to the individual 

Our approach is guided by the Interim Standards for New Directions, ensuring a high-quality, person-centred service. People may attend part-time while also participating in education, work, or other community activities. This flexible model helps individuals engage in meaningful activities that suit their lifestyle, interests, and goals.

Learning and Development

We provide learning opportunities to help individuals explore their interests and develop new skills. This may include:

  • QQI Level 3 Art 
  • QQI Level 2 Horticulture
  • Community education courses and lifelong learning programmes
  • Support to find courses in the community and local colleges

Shared Learning and Social Activities

These activities promote social connection, fun, confidence, and meaningful engagement.

  • Group activities, games, quizzes, and challenges
  • Baking and cooking activities
  • Community outings, including cafés, cinemas, and local events
  • Travel Training

Creativity and Wellbeing

Creativity and wellbeing are at the heart of our service. Activities encourage self-expression, confidence, and emotional wellbeing, such as:

  • Pottery and arts activities
  • Music and drama sessions
  • Yoga and relaxation
  • Gardening and horticulture

Rights, Choice and Independence

We recognise each person as an adult with the right to make decisions about their life. We promote self-advocacy and support individuals to have their voice heard.

We support individuals to:

  • make their own choices 
  • express their views and preferences 
  • be listened to and involved in decisions 
  • feel safe and have their privacy respected 

Key Worker and Person-Centred Planning

The individual is supported by a Key Worker who:

  • Helps develop and review a Person-Centred Plan
  • Supports planning of activities and learning opportunities
  • Liaises with families, support networks, or other services where appropriate
  • Ensures each person’s goals, interests, and preferences are led by the person
